Los Angeles Kicks Off Emergency Preparedness Month
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and other city officials urged citizens to have plans in place for dealing with disasters, as part of the Emergency Preparedness Fair put on by the city of Los Angeles Emergency Management Department and the California Emergency Management Agency.
Catered to elementary school children, the fair included activities, games and giveaways provided by corporate sponsors. Lifeline supplied guests with fully equipped emergency kits, while the Los Angeles Police and Fire Department, among others, presented kids with lessons and showed off their gear.
Speakers included elected officials from national, state, and local levels, conveying the message that “Preparedness starts with you and me.” One especially popular guest was a search dog from My Safe LA that demonstrated his talents and safety training on stage for the children.
