“O, what tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive!” – couldn’t have said it better myself, Sir Walter Scott.

“Lone Star”, one of three new FOX series premiering this fall, set itself up for a season filled with deceit, sex, money, and action.

James Wolk plays Robert/Bob Allen, a man who has been trained by his father to be a talented con man. From the beginning, Wolk’s character blurs the line between right and wrong and causes us to seriously evaluate the practice of polygamy.

Robert/Bob Allen has somehow managed to create a perfect relationship with his wife AND girlfriend – a feat many people can’t achieve with just one spouse. Makes you hate him already, huh? No such luck. Mr. Allen is a charmer from the beginning of the episode till the very end. And the fact that he’s easy on the eyes doesn’t hurt either.

The cast of the show includes Adrianne Palicki and Eloise Mumford as Robert/Bob’s wife and girlfriend, Bryce Johnson and Mark Deklin as his brothers-in-law, with David Keith standing in as his con man father, and Jon Voight as his oil tycoon father-in-law.

While Wolk’s character manages to keep his double life from being discovered by anyone (with the exception of his father), a business deal made for his father-in-law’s company at the end of the first episode could make things a little too close for comfort. While Robert/Bob Allen's fast-paced, deceitful personal lives keep you on the edge of your seat, his career could definitely be vamped up, and it'd also help to have some loose ends tied up in the second episode to resolve a few unanswered questions.

As a whole, this series has some potential. Only next week…and the week after next…and the week after that, will tell.
