Lady Gaga, who lovingly refers to her fans as “little monsters,” took home eight awards at the September 12 Video Music Awards on MTV at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.

She set a record for 13 nominations this year, after coming onto the scene only two years ago.

I’ll admit it: I am a “little monster.” But that’s not the only reason why I fully support Lady Gaga her multiple VMA wins this year.

Lady Gaga surprised everyone last night - not by her outfits, or her wins - but by announcing her new album title “Born This Way” and belting out the chorus of one of her new songs. Rumor was that she was going to announce her latest album title on New Year’s Eve this year, so the announcement came as a great surprise to the delight of her devoted fans.

The singer took home eight Moonmans this year, including the coveted Video Of The Year award, and it's hard to imagine it going to anyone else. In the past year, Gaga has won over 50 awards including Grammys, VMAs, People’s Choice Awards, BET Awards, and American Music Awards, to name a few. She also broke the record for most digital downloads and had multiple number one hits on the Billboard chart.

Even the social media world loves Gaga. She has over 17 million fans on Facebook, and was the first person to reach 10 million fans ever. She is also the most followed person on Twitter and her video “Bad Romance” broke records for the most-watched YouTube video.

Aside from all the statistics, Lady Gaga truly deserves everything that has come her way as she’s worked hard to get to where she is today. Gaga worked her way up the hard way - by playing small venues, getting dropped by a record label, and living in tiny New York apartments, writing and trying to promote her songs.

In the summer of 2008, Gaga’s first hit “Just Dance” had everyone immediately intrigued. With catchy pop vocals, a great dance beat and an infusion of pop and techno/trance music, she first gained popularity in Europe before hitting it big in the States.

I saw Lady Gaga in Seattle, WA in early 2009 when her single “Poker Face” was beginning to rise on the charts. “I don’t have any money, because I spent it all on my show,” she said in the early days at that performance. She has always put her fans first and worked hard on her music and performances.

As one of her fans, I know I’m not the only one salivating for new music, and not the only one who listened to “The Fame” and “The Fame Monster” on repeat for months. Gaga is in her element, and no one can predict what she will do next, except that she will continue to shock and awe us, and create amazing music in the process.
