The lovable monster Dexter Morgan is now pocket-sized.

Marc Echo Entertainment has translated season one of the Showtime hit "Dexter" into a game for the iPhone (OS 3.0 or later) and iPod touch, with an iPad version being released this fall.

Players help Morgan investigate crime scenes, analyze blood spatters and stalk, trap and kill the guilty who slip through the justice system’s cracks. The choices one makes during the game must, of course, help Morgan avoid getting caught.

The images look quite realistic, mimicking actual actors and scenes from the series. The show’s actors did voice-work for their animated characters.

The game received a four out of five star rating on iTunes from players; downloads are available for $5.99.

"Dexter" fans will develop a stronger connection to Morgan from playing the game. But the game is not just for the Dexter-obsessed.

“Hardcore gamers looking for something a little more dastardly for the iPhone that offers some traditional videogame thrills – such as stealth – should also give it a download,” noted IGN.

Those who have yet to watch the show will be intrigued and gamers should appreciate the game’s maturity and adventure.
Releasing the iPad version of the game is a perfect marketing tool to generate interest in the series and promote season five, the newest season that premiers Sept. 26.

Violent video games have gotten a bad reputation for glorifying illegal, sexist and angry actions. So is it the same with Dexter: The Game?

As odd as it may sound, Morgan is a serial killer with morals. His foster father, Harry Morgan, realized Morgan had an innate need to kill. Morgan’s father taught him a set of rules to keep Morgan’s secret hidden. The main rule of the code: only kill the guilty.

Morgan may be a serial killer, but he uses his dark need to clean up the streets. If people are going to play games as murderers, Morgan is the best monster to emulate.
