The unanimous vote led to the allotment of $780,000 in federal funding to People Assisting the Homeless, $780,000 to Union Station Homeless Services and $3,120,000 to Volunteers of America of Los Angeles.

Officials from the agencies could not immediately be reached for comment.

The funding comes from the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-housing Program, which received $1.5 billion under the Obama administration's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The money is distributed nationwide to agencies that assist the homeless in finding housing and provide specialized services like therapy, drug rehabilitation and case management systems.
