For better or worse, Jimmy Fallon hosted the 62nd Annual Primetime Emmys on NBC, and while the long-winded awards ceremony certainly wasn't a disaster, most of the highlights came from surprising wins (or in the case of the final season of "LOST", a complete loss).

Edie Falco beat out hilarious women like Amy Poehler and Tina Fey as Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series while Eric Stonestreet was the stand-out amongst two other Modern Family co-stars to take home the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

On the drama side of things, the final season of "LOST" was met with as lukewarm of an award reception as the finale episode earlier this summer. "LOST" failed to take home any writing, directing or acting awards for which its cast members were nominated and lost the big Outstanding Drama award to "Mad Men" (though the series completely deserved the statue for an astounding third season). Meanwhile, "Modern Family" grabbing the award for Outstanding Comedy was completely satisfying, even for someone who is a die-hard fan of "The Office" and "30 Rock".

As far as impromptu moments throughout the show, my favorite was a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment where waiters, prompted by comedian and presenter Ricky Gervais' attempt to liven things up, handed beer to the front row of the audience. One potential recipient, the rehabilitated Matthew Perry, refused the beverage with a hilariously priceless look on his face.

A more prominent highlight was the fantastic opening musical number featuring cast members from "Glee", Tina Fey, Jorge Garcia, Joel McHale, Jon Hamm, Betty White and more singing and dancing from video playback right on to the Emmy stage.

Other highlights included a touching performance from Jewel over the "In Memoriam" reel of the talents the TV industry lost over the past year and a great pre-recorded bit featuring the cast of Modern Family receiving some  advice on how to liven up the next season (options included introducing "Family Guy's" Stewie Griffin to the cast and a 3D broadcast to accentuate some of actress Sofia Vergara's...assets.
