Lil Wayne Weighs In On Miami's Big Three
Lil Wayne may be serving a one-year bid at Riker's Island for gun possession, but that hasn't stopped him from actively following sports.
The popular rapper, real name Dwayne Carter, revealed his thoughts about LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh joining forces in Miami in a blog post called "The Tricks of the Trade" that was released Tuesday on his website, weezythanxyou.com.
Using his typical stream of consciousness style, Weezy expressed his excitement about the move, using lines like "this Miami team will be explosive as intended" and "Anything less than an NBA championship title will be uncivilized. 72-10 anybody?"
I'm not sure "anything less will be uncivilized"--what is this? a Right Guard commercial?--but Weezy has a point. Expectations will be high for King Prince James and Co. There are going to be a lot of eyeballs on them this year. Nobody since David Bowie has been under this much pressure. If they slip they'll be ridiculed mercilessly.
Wayne also compared the LeBron-Wade-Bosh trio to other great trios of the past: Magic, Worthy and Kareem; Bird, McHale and Parrish; and KG, Pierce and Ray Allen. He's got the math right, but there's one glaring difference between those trios and the South Beach boys: championship rings. Each member of those great Lakers and Celtics' trios have one. Wade has one. But Bron and Bosh don't.
They're a great trio, yes. But that's only from a talent perspective. Let's wait until they win a title to start annointing them as legends.
Weezy proceeds to run through a couple of inane lineup scenarios ("Wade at the 1 and Lebron at the 2 or vice versa even, or Mario Chalmers at the 1, Wade at the 2, and Bron at the 3… Wow!") and some cheap assessments about other free agent deals ("Minnesota is stacked now with Beasley, Jefferson, Love, and Milicic") before finishing with a casual send-off: "Good ole basketball."
I like that. Good ole basketball. Don't be surprised if that's my send-off for the next few weeks.
We'll leave the coaching to Erik Spoelstra, but it's interesting to hear Lil Wayne's take nonetheless.
If he's right about 72-10 maybe Baby will give him another million dollar suitcase.
