Voters from the Northern San Fernando Valley came to Nobel Middle School Tuesday to cast their ballot for the California Primary.

"We have about a 20 percent turn-out," poll worker JoAnn Phillips said.

Key state issues of immigration, education, jobs and government spending are to be decided, with many hoping for a change in policy.

"The way the state is being run is obviously not working, and it obviously needs to change. I love this state, and I do not want to see our economic situation get worse," Democrat Michael Delshand said after voting.

Steve Helm, a teacher at Nobel commented on the Republican candidates for governor saying, "I cannot believe how much money both candidates have spent in the primary. They are trying to buy their way to the position. People want to be politicians, but they cannot fix any of these problems. I like one Republican candidate more than the other, but I don't think either one are going to do a good job. "

Rachel Bildmark, a non-partisan voter, said she had more optimistic views about the future of California. "I hope tax payer money goes to improving our education system and creating more jobs. This is the time to be liberal. This is the time to reform immigration so that people who want to work and help our economy can. This is the time to focus on our children," she said.

Dear Phenia,

You did a wonderful "slice of life" piece on yesterday's Primary Election in our precinct. Your picto/essay captured the essence of what is so wonderful about our government and our way of life.

It was a pleasure to meet you and I feel sure that you will realize any and all ambitions you have with great adventure along the way.

Sincerely,

Adrienne Lassman
