Downtown Los Angeles was host to the largest cycling event in America on Saturday.

The Amgen Tour of California made its way through Los Angeles for the seventh of eight events across the state.

Top professionals from all over the world representing their cycling teams have already ridden through the streets of Sacramento, Davis, San Fransisco, San Jose, Bakersfield and Palmdale.

A marshal who has worked for the Amgen Tour for many years said that 85 of the best cyclists in the world qualified for the race.

Starting at the Staples Center, the cyclists came down Exposition Blvd. to the Coliseum, around to Olive Street and then back to the Staples Center.

The individual time trial was two laps around the course, causing road closures and traffic jams.

Tony Martin of HTC-Columbia finished the 20.9 miles in 20 minutes and 52 seconds. His teammate Michael Rogers came only a second after.

Rogers holds the overall lead in the Tour of California as it goes to its final location in Thousand Oaks.
