State Sen. Scott Brown beat out state Attorney General Martha Coakley to snag Senator Ted Kennedy's seat and become Massachusetts' first Republican senator in nearly four decades.
Browns victory came as a shock to many, as Coakley seemed nothing short of a shoo-in in the weeks leading up to the election.
The upset in Massachusetts left pundits in a tizzy, scrambling to decipher what the end of a Democratic super-majority in Congress could spell for healthcare reform and the party's future.
Vociferously against healthcare reform, Brown would give Republicans the 41 votes they need to filibuster and block any healthcare reform.
