On the UCLA campus Monday, it seemed the focus had shifted from contentious fee hikes to the cross-town rivalry between the Bruins and USC's Trojans.
But three days ago, hundreds of enraged students stormed Campbell Hall to protest a 32 percent fee hike across the University of California system. Not even riot police could quell the crowd, and UC Regents were escorted from the building into waiting armored vehicles.
Students and staff expressed their worries for the future, as the state budget crisis continues to worsen by the day.
Lauren Dickinson, a freshman environmental science major, said she and her parents have yet to figure out how they'll come up with the extra $2,500 for her tuition.
Junior Spencer Soo worries about the effect the fees could have on his family and friends who want to come to UCLA. He says he has one cousin who went to junior college, foregoing a four-year university because of expense.
