Game 6 Recap: After a rainout Saturday the New York Yankees secured their 40th pennant Sunday night, beating the Los Angeles Angels in New York 5-2.
While the game was billed as a pitching duel, Andy Pettitte stole the show allowing just seven hits, one earned run and six strike outs in just over six innings. With this win, Pettitte now holds the season record for wins.
Playing to the largest crowd yet at the new stadium--a sell-out at 50,173--fans stood almost the entire game, roaring in the top of the ninth as the seasoned Mariano Rivera took down the Angels in precise fashion.
"You bring him in, you feel like the game's over. He's the best," Pettitte said about his teammate Rivera.
The long-time nemesis of the Yankees, the Angels, had nothing more left. Committing two crucial errors in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Angels never regained their come-from-behind attitude and the Yankees bested them.
The Yankees will take on the defending World Champion Philadelphia Phillies, looking to claim their 27th world title, most in baseball history.
Key Moment: Mariano Rivera taking the mound in the eighth inning to secure the game.
Game Changer: Errors committed by the Angels in the bottom of the eighth allowing New York to expand its one-run lead.
