HONG KONG -- Police quashed a sit-in demonstration after the annual July 1 pro-democracy march rally ended at the Central Government's headquarters, forcing dozens of protesters off the property.
The July 1 event marks the 12th anniversary of the region's handover from Britain to China. A main theme this year among protesters was to demand implementation of universal suffrage by 2012.
It is the last protest rally before the government introduces a constitutional reform proposal at the end of the year.
